Faith Essentials: Easter - Because of His Great Love

Easter - Because of His Great Love

Wednesday, April 8th

Let’s take a brief look at Luke’s account of the resurrection. Luke also wrote the book of Acts. Which based upon word count, Luke wrote more in the NT than any other author. I know Paul wrote more books, Luke just wrote longer books. I share that because Luke gives us great detail with all that he experiences.

Luke 24:1-8- On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’” 8 Then they remembered his words.

Again, as the women discover the empty tomb (another powerful message for another time), they are left with questions, “wondering about this”. But notice the question that was asked of them. “Why do you look for the living among the dead?”

Then they said, remember. Remember what Jesus said. He must be crucified and on the third day be raised again. He is not here, he has risen.

Then they remembered his words and went to tell the others
.

I wonder if sometimes we don’t choose to follow or obey until we understand the why of faith? Once we get all our why questions answered and can begin to get our arms around our questions and our doubts, maybe then we can truly believe.

Yet, we will never have all the answers but, like the followers at the empty tomb, their questions began to shift to trust because of what Jesus said and did.

The greatest “why” question that God answers, is why did Jesus die? Because of His great love.

When the angel says, “remember what Jesus said”, it was a call back to all the Jesus said and did. Which is the exclamation point on the resurrection. Because Jesus did what he said he was going to do. We know that everywhere it says God loves you, it is true.

Today, sit with the question, “why are you looking for the living among the dead?” What does that mean for you and the impact of Jesus doing what he said he was going to do?
Also, take some time with this song, Love of God
