Genesis - Forming & Filling

Genesis - Forming & Filling

Friday, May 1st

Last observation, day one God separated light and darkness and day four he filled the heavens with light to govern. Where do we see Jesus separate light and darkness? Where do we see him separate rule?

With a word, he took care of darkness forever and stepped into ultimate rule. “It is finished.” And he breathed his last breath.

If you want to jot down a few passages where we see God’s victory over darkness is God’s victory over sin and death. You can jot down Romans 8:34, 1 Corinthians 15:54-58 and Hebrews 2:14-15.

For today I want to read Romans 6:3-11 (Message version)- That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country. Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer captive to sin’s demands! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did.

Which means when we experience sin, failure, a sense of death we need to look to Christ’s victory. Christ separated light from darkness, death to life and he sits victoriously at the right hand of God, and we are to live in that same victory, that same life, that same rule.
First, it is a decision to live in that life-saving resurrection, choosing to believe Jesus’ redemptive work at the cross and empty tomb. Do you believe? If not, why? If not, please reach out and let’s talk more about this life-giving decision.

Second, it is confessing those areas that we are living in the “old-country” of sin and repenting (turning) to live in the grace-country.

It can be as simple as this, “God, I give you this area of my life, I no longer want to be ruled by it. I want to live under your rule and grace. Forgive me, set me free, because of the powerful work of the cross. May my spirit be guided by your Spirit. Thank you for the victory YOU have given me.”

This is the creative order, when what is formed around us or in us is in chaos, may we look to what is filing us; God’s truth, the Spirit’s peace, and Christ’s victory.

In what ways do you need to go 'deeper still' in your faith journey, and what is holding you back from taking that next step of trust and obedience?

Take a moment as well with this song as a song of reflection A Thousand Hallelujahs
