Genesis- Oh Brother Pt.2
Genesis - Oh Brother Pt.2
Friday, September 11th
John Walton in his commentary shares it this way. “How much more should we be in awe of God’s mercy and compassion. We can never know whether Cain responded with such gratitude to God, though his initial response might suggest not. But it is irrelevant how Cain responded. What is important is how we respond once we are impressed with the power of God’s mercy and grace.”
Two roads, do we go on wandering through life, thinking and hoping that “our actions” will be enough to work out our sin, that we will do enough good or believe in the right religion to make it all better. Or do we choose the path that is marked by mercy? Knowing full well what our sin deserves and yet, that is not what is offered to us by God through his son Jesus. Do we live wandering or marked by mercy?
Tim Mackie from the Bible Project states it so well. “There are two wills at work: anti-creation and creation, death and life, self-destruction and flourishing. It’s our choices that show our allegiance.”
Which path, the path of creation, life and flourishing, if so then let us live with favored intention, rule over, as we are marked with mercy. Or the alternative?
Today, in your prayer time (either with a journal or in your mind/heart), allow yourself the opportunity to reflect and see the moments you chose the road of God and the times you didn’t. It isn’t a shame exercise, it is learning where you need to grow and be less like you and more like Jesus.
