Relationship Remix - Rebuilding Trust
Relationship Remix - Rebuilding trust with difficult people pt.2
Wednesday, November 5th
Yesterday we introduced the first step in dealing with a fool, either in you or in your relationship. You hold up the mirror to their actions, the next step is invite challenge. Be patient and hear me on this. Because a fool hates correction, hates wisdom, hates discipline and loves their own way. They will only stay in their own way. To rebuild trust with a fool, you need to mirror and invite them into challenge, or discipline or growth. Another opportunity to give them a choice, stay a fool or change.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27- 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
I love that picture because it gives us a picture of a fool and one who lives by discipline. A fool runs through life aimlessly, one who boxes the air. Envision those two realities for a moment.
But one who is trained by discipline invites challenge and growth.
We see discipline in everything. There is a cost of being disciplined in what you eat, fitness, what you choose to give up. There must be a cost in inviting challenge to a fool.
Maybe the fool you are rebuilding trust with has a toxic tongue, you have mirrored that, but now it is time to invite challenge. Maybe it is calling out demeaning sarcasm, that you challenge them to correct their tongue or tone. Asking them what do they need help with to change their tongue, tone, or anger?
Where do you need to invite challenge for yourself, a place for growth or discipline? Where do you need to invite challenge for someone else to rebuild trust?
