Relationship Remix - Rebuilding Trust

Relationship Remix - Rebuilding trust with difficult people pt.2

Friday, November 7th
Take a look at what Paul says to the church in Corinth, but specifically in the Message version.

2 Corinthians 7:10-13- (MSG)- Distress that drives us to God does that. It turns us around. It gets us back in the way of salvation. We never regret that kind of pain. But those who let distress drive them away from God are full of regrets, end up on a deathbed of regrets. And
now, isn’t it wonderful all the ways in which this distress has goaded you closer to God? You’re more alive, more concerned, more sensitive, more reverent, more human, more passionate, more responsible. Looked at from any angle, you’ve come out of this with purity of heart. And that is what I was hoping for in the first place when I wrote the letter. My primary concern was not for the one who did the wrong or even the one wronged, but for you—that you would realize and act upon the deep, deep ties between us before God. That’s what happened—and we felt just great.

Notice how Paul celebrated the hard work, yes the struggle that was there, but the good news of change.

To tend to the fool in you, you need to look at yourself in a mirror, what do you see that doesn’t reflect the Father, Jesus’ love and wisdom, like David, there needs to be confession and repentance. Tending to the fool in you is inviting challenge, where do you need to be disciplined and grow.

Tending to the fool in you is enforcing the boundaries and if you can’t hold yourself accountable, who are you inviting to do that.

Which also translates to how you rebuild trust with a fool. Mirror their actions, invite challenge for growth, and enforce boundaries. If there is a willingness of the other person to do that, then you can rebuild trust with them.

As a part of this process, take a look at this song, called New Wine by Hillsong and the power of change that needs to take place from us being a fool to wise, from old wine to new wine.
